The Mothers by Brit Bennett

5.0

I read with my emotions rather than my head a lot of the time, and this book pulled at my heartstrings. The "electric" connection between Nadia and Luke made me root for them even through their apparent dysfunction. I think Brit Bennett did a good job of not wrapping up the story in a fairy tale way--the line about Aubrey and Luke being patched up like a pair of jeans that never looks quite right again was a powerful way of conveying that idea. I appreciated that Nadia still got to do her and get out there and live her life while not feeling weighted down by all that had transpired in her hometown.
