The second instalment in the Emmy Lake Chronicles brought the same level of feel-good, nostalgic writing and was just as enjoyable as the first. I was maybe a little less invested in the story this time around, and the ending was very much just setting up for a third book in the series, but I was engaged and really loved all the characters.

There were quite a number of side plots throughout the story, and I really enjoyed how they all came together. There was a much smaller focus on the magazine and Emmy’s writing itself in this book, which was one of my favourite elements from previously, but the storyline with Anne and the factory nurseries was really important and very interesting too from a historical perspective.

I’ll definitely be looking out for more books in this series as I love the heartwarming feeling they give but with just the right amount of drama and conflict. Overall, another lovely little book!
