I really loved this collection of interconnected stories, I loved being able to experience their lives through each character's POV and then read the interconnected story from another character's POV. It gives you another experience but also gives you an outside POV on the other characters. I really enjoyed how it showed a variety of British black women's lives that no one has one type of life or one set of experiences. But there is still common links, wanting a partner, working, race etc. I loved the scope that each story was developed and colourful individual but they work as a part of a larger novel. This is very well written and very Bernadine her tone here is the same as in Manifesto very lyrical, reflective and conflicting. My only downside is at times each story could have been slightly edited to reduce some repetitive narrative and I needed a character tree, to figure out how each woman was related to the other.
