A quick reread.
I remember liking this story among the most back when I read all I could find by Kafka as a teenager. Still not sure what I was supposed to take from the story, but oh man, the little details: the traveler threating the soldier and the condemned with the hangman's knot, the disturbing threat of the Commander that one day he shall return, the almost miraculous way in which the Officer is denied the epiphanies he's so obsessed with...
t's a great story. I think the religious aspects don't interest me as much as other possible readings, but I kinda wanna read what people's thoughts are. Lots of potential there.
