Tropes: Rake, Alpha hero, independent heroine, responsible sibling, friends to lovers, soul mates
+This novel is a stand alone Heyer historical romance, written toward the end of her career (1965).
+The novel takes place in the spring of 1818
+Locations: London, Hertfordshire
+H/Vernon Dauntry, Marquis of Alverstoke (37) and h/Frederica Merriville (24)
+Lord Alverstoke is the youngest of 4 siblings and the only son. His elder sisters are Augusta (Lady Jevington), Louisa (Lady Buxted), and Elizabeth Kentmere. He has been spoiled since birth, and prides himself in his selfishness and refusal to do anything that does not benefit him first and foremost. He is a rake, and the most eligible bachelor in the ton, but has no interest in marriage. He is constantly being asked for money by his two oldest sisters. He is tall, well-built, good looking and rich.
+Frederica is the oldest of 5 siblings and has shouldered all of the responsibility for her family and household since her parents' deaths. Her siblings are Harry (21), Charis (19), Jessamy (15) and Felix (10). The family has a large mutt named Lufra. She is described as being of gracious manners, pretty with an air of countenance, and sparkling eyes. Frederica has no thoughts of marriage for herself, and has never been in love.
+Frederica has brought her 3 youngest siblings to town from the Merrivilles estate (Graynard) in an effort to give Charis a London season and an opportunity to make an advantageous marriage. Charis is stunningly beautiful and kind hearted, and hasn't a particle of deceit. In order to be introduced to the ton, Frederica has concocted a scheme to solicit the assistance of Lord Alverstoke, her late father's distant cousin -- but a man she has never met and who in turn had no knowledge of Frederica's existence -- to launch Charis into society.
+This is one of my favorite Heyer novels. There are several laugh out loud scenes when the Merrivilles end up at the mercy of Alverstoke to get them out of various scrapes. This is a joyful friends to lovers romance between two people who each thought they would never fall in love with anyone.
