In every short story, Brian Evenson builds a miniature world so complete that you can't help but wish you were staying longer. He plays so adeptly with your perception of reality, using the instability of his characters and his settings like a weapon, that you really don't know what's real by the end of the book. The title story is perfect proof of that. Every time you believe you know what's going on, every time you think you can predict an ending, Brian Evenson opens the trap door beneath you and sends you straight down into indeterminate darkness.
Graphic: Body horror and Gore
Moderate: Schizophrenia/Psychosis
