Door of Bruises by Sierra Simone
Excuse me while I finish ugly crying. Good god! Yes, in the end everyone got their HEA. I should comfort myself with that, right?? Silver fox Auden and saint, together with poe, Rebecca and Delphine married and still at thornchapel and Becket is still serving his god. The ending is so good and angsty and it all makes big sense. Sierra Simone is such a master at her craft. Really truly. I had to re-examine the Sierra Scale with some of the taboo parts. But she handled it so well, in a way that all the characters were given their space for their feelings and a sense of inevitability. She leaves the question of saints paternity open - never with a definite answer. Just 2 possible options. And to me it makes sense that this is a quantum question - as is referenced in the book. It’s religious and scientific. It’s prehistoric and modern. The view by which you examine any situation colors the interpretation. It could be both. A threat and a curse and a promise. So is saint and audens love wrong? Is Becket wrong for being a priest and loving his friends through prehistoric ritual? Ahhhh THIS SERIES. Come for the gothic polyamorous love story, stay for the deep feeling and philosophical thoughts.
