REVIEW (includes spoilers)

Ok so upon further reflection, there were so many things that I loved about this book. I honestly feel like this was in the same stream of novel as TSHOEH (but I actually enjoyed this one more!). In such a short frame of time, it was executed very beautifully. My only complaint is that I wish we would've gotten more of the flashback chapters with Decklee and Mickenlee's love story because those were my favorite.

The treasure hunt aspect was so fun, I really enjoyed learning more and more Decklee lore as the story continued to unfold. I am not from the south, but this book and Darren's desire to escape her small hometown where she felt misunderstood hit close to home for me and was very in line with my experience as a queer person from a small town.

I also really loved the ending. I think it perfectly wrapped up the novel. I appreciated that the author did justice to Darren's bisexuality, but I also really liked that the story stayed true to Darren's character and in the end she did not compromise on her morals to fit in with the obvious love story between her and Kendell, and that she still chases after her dreams.

The Mickenlee Hooper reveal was also insane, and though I did quickly pick up on it, I always love to be right and was glad that was the case! I would absolutely read a novel that just follows more of Mickenlee and Decklee's stories together.

I did tear up seeing this at Barnes & Noble because back when I was prime YA reading age any books with queer characters that I wanted to read had to be ordered specially online because they were never in stores (unless they were wildly popular ones). To pick this up off a shelf that was intentionally labelled and full of queer stories was incredible and I am so happy for the young people that are getting representation in all forms of media.

TLDR; loved it! Would recommend!
