Among the Hidden by Margaret Peterson Haddix
2.0
Dystopian book club pick for 7s.
Is it just me, or does it seem like the whole book served as a trailer for "the real action" to come in the rest of the series? Why can't we have a stand-alone dystopian novel?
Anyways, the connections to the Chinese one child policy are pretty stark, but the subsequent imaginings of government power are interesting.
Definitely much shorter and probably more accessible than the usual book club picks (Matched, Legend, I am Number Four, etc), so a handy title to keep for struggling readers.
Recommend for: kids who'll read any dystopia, serial series readers
If you liked: City of Ember, Wrinkle in Time, maybe even The Book Thief
