A Mercy by Toni Morrison
5.0
I got tingles a few times. A smart, poetic wash of ideas like the hierarchy between between people in various places of servitude, by race, gender, and station. I love how much is accomplished in such a short space. I love the language, the sadness that haunts. More simple and brief than Beloved, and less eerie, but I definitely can feel the same writer. You could probably do jt in one sitting if you wanted. My favorites were the second-person portions. And that the word Sorrow has stuck with me now.
