Counting the Cost by Jill Duggar
4.0
This book made me evaluate how I consume entertainment. Jill uses her words to express the deep anxiety she felt growing up and how the show changed her father. She also reflects on toxic beliefs that she has worked through.
She doesn’t address the content of Derick’s controversial twitter comments, and I feel that at the very least, they could have expressed that the comments were unnecessary. Regardless, that is not what the book is about.
Jill’s words remind us that children are not a sideshow. That parents should keep healthy boundaries with adult children. And that it’s never too late to learn to say “no” and live with the discomfort of others’ disapproval.
