Jesus, I just love Rowell’s writing an insane amount. I feel this pull to her books whenever I start one of them, and I cannot put them down - unlike any other book or author out there. This was a re-read for me before I finished the Carry On series and I loved it equally as much as the first time around.

Cath as a character is hopeless at times and kind of a cringey, awkward, anxious nerd, but you can’t help but grow to love her and her passion for Simon and Baz. The way Rowell wrote about Cath’s writing was so infectious, it made me wish I was a writer so badly, and the slowly developing relationship with Levi was the perfect slow-burner for me. I love them together and I want more of them!!

The whole world of mages is so wonderful and mystical, it really is something special. I can’t believe that it could ever have been only planned for small snippets in a non-fantasy book - there is so much thought and detail mentioned, I’m so glad there are more books focusing on the magic. And just as a side note, I loveee the way that spells work, developing by common phrases being spoken aloud often - so clever and inspired.

Weirdly enough it also made me miss living at uni in halls with flatmates, and that whole freshers experience. I just love education, man.

I really just couldn’t put Fangirl down and that says enough in itself about how much I loved every second of reading it. The perfect YA with lovely bits of romance and fantasy thrown in. 5++ stars.
