Firstly - I read this in the gorgeous Chiltern edition (however the text had a few spelling mistakes) which really annoyed me considering the cost of these. Secondly - I would have sworn I have read this before, however, throughout the book was surprised at the difference (so I assume I have just seen the BBC adaptation and assumed I have read it.) Thirdly - I didn't love this as much as a thought I would, now this is still a 4.25-star book because it's Jane Austen, wonderfully written, interesting plot with twists and turns, and absolutely absorbing. But I found Marianne to be annoying, self-absorbed, and at times mean (very Kitty/Lydia-like), which is funny as I loved Kate Winslet's version. I found the opposite of Elinor who I didn't like when played by Emma Thompson I found her boring and bland. However, in the book, she is very three-dimensional and has great emotional maturity and understanding of people. I loved Colonel Brandon, I wish we could have known him better, but you don't feel like he is not fleshed out, just that he has a history and past Jane Austen hasn't told you yet. Edward (blahhh, boring and lacks any backbone). My biggest issues are Elinor should have ended up with Colonel Brandon they actually had respect and friendship and a story arc of togetherness actually on the page and the pacing, we spent chapters and chapters with side characters, Ms. Jennings, Lucy Steel, and Willoughby, etc and you never get to actually see Marianne and the Colonel develop their relationship on the page, it is all rushed and wrapped up in the last chapter. Either this should have had 5 more chapters or the extra in the middle edited out and more on page Marianne and the Colonel. But I still enjoyed myself and the reading.
