My New Crush Gave to Me by Shani Petroff

5.0

After reading two emotionally intense and amazing Sarah J. Maas books back to back (ACOWAR and Tower of Dawn), My New Crush Gave to Me by Shani Petroff was just the book I needed. I knew just by looking at the cover and reading the synopsis that I was going to love it. The cover art is awesome and accompanies the story beautifully. My New Crush Gave to Me is so adorable, funny, lighthearted, and festive! The story is set during the holidays so I felt that Christmas did not end for me until I finished this book. It put me in such a holiday mood that I was listening to Christmas music in January. Which I did not mind at all because Christmas is my favorite holiday! I want to mention that this book is not just focused on Christmas. There are elements of Hanukkah which I found interesting to read about because I’m not familiar with the holiday. I really admired the main character, Charlotte aka Charlie’s determination, time management, and responsibility for everything she does. I need to channel my inner Charlie Donovan for the Spring semester in school! We need to talk about J.D. Ortiz. I won’t spoil anything but he’s so cute, thoughtful, kind, and genuine. I love him and he’s definitely my favorite character. I hope I find my J.D. someday!

What I loved about My New Crush Gave to Me is how the author, Shani Petroff, wrote the relationships between the characters. Every girl should get to experience the friendship that Charlie and her best friend, Morgan Levine, have while reading this book and in reality. They didn’t have any drama, they supported each other, and knew each other so well. I enjoyed reading about the holiday traditions of the Ortiz and Levine families. Morgan and her relationship with her boyfriend, Ira, is very positive and endearing. My New Crush Gave to Me warmed my heart, made it grow three sizes (Grinch anyone?), and had me smiling from ear to ear! I will definitely be rereading it when the most wonderful time of the year rolls around! If you’re looking for a short and sweet, light read, then you will enjoy this book.
