I’d been waiting to read Beach Read for a really long time so was glad to finally get around to it on holiday. I did enjoy the story and really loved exploring more about the characters and their histories. It was revealed slowly over the course of the book so it felt really worth it and satisfying to gain the whole picture towards the end.
I loved the context of January and Gus as writers, it really added a lot to the story as they worked through writers blockand finally were able to read each others’ books at the end. The other characters, mainly Pete and Maggie, were wonderful and I grew to really love them too.
I can’t say I loved Beach Read though other than those points. I found the sex scenes a bit uncomfortable to read, and didn’t enjoy how things were described, it just wasn’t the style for me. I felt like some of the conflicts were a bit unnecessary and strung out too, and that really took my rating down unfortunately. I’m just not sure it deserved all the hype it received, but it is still a good romance book which I’m sure a lot of people will, and do, love.
