The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods

2.0

Reality did not live up to the expectations…

This felt like a string of events rather than a consistent plot, and I felt truly lost as to what is happening and why. The story is told in 2 separate timelines (Ophaline in the past and Henry and Martha in present day). I liked Ophalines story and I preferably would have just read about her. Martha and Henry’s POVs made me struggle; for some reason I could not comprehend what age these people are and what time they were in. It felt like they lived in 1950 when I think it’s meant to be 2020 (present day).

The magical realism… I know it’s not necessarily meant to make sense (it’s magic lol) but for a tattoo to just appear? A bookshop to appear? A whole character to be solely crated by magic? All these things without proper explanation of why and who? It did not make sense why it existed in the first place. But maybe I’m overthinking it
