Accidentally All of Me Book 1 by Ali Parker
3.0
The premise and story were cute, but the writing was weak. What I didn't like: The writing-It was redundant repeating the same things over and over very close together. This made it seem like the reader was too stupid to put two and two together. Additionally, continuity suffers a lot in this book. One example of this is in one chapter Winnie, Harry's niece is 9 yo and a few chapters later she is said to be 10 yo. We get small unimportant details almost to a fault in this book, so it would have been strange if Winnie had a birthday and it was never mentioned. There is very little showing in this book, it is all telling, which I guess is fine, but I think there would be more investment in the characters if we were shown and immersed in their narratives instead of talked to death through them.
What I liked: The story premise and the characters really saved this. Some much needed editing could have made this super enjoyable. Storyline/Characters is a 3.5 and writing is a generous 2. I am going to pick up book 2 because I’m interested to see how the writing grows, but also because I want that cute story where two people can find and love each other in all the randomness of the world.
Final thoughts: From a technical aspect I don't understand how this book has an overall rating of 4 stars the writing is just lacking, not bad mind you, just not polished or edited well. From a character and story aspect the book is a strong 3.5 but that is based on the hopes that book 2 will give us more showing less telling.
