Last On His Feet: Jack Johnson and the Battle of the Century by Adrian Matejka, Adrian Matejka, Youssef Daoudi, Youssef Daoudi
5.0
I'd read Monk! several years ago and was so compelled by the story, artwork, and color palette. All the same applies here. The specifics of Jack Johnson's life are interwoven between his bout with Jim Jeffries dubbed The Fight of the Century.
I don't know much about boxing and it didn't really matter. The presentation of the fight as well as the racially charged environment it was fought in are deftly explained by Adrian Matejka.
Genuinely one of the best things I've read this year, been a very slumpy year of reading for me so this was a treat.
