I didn’t really like this book, it wasn’t bad but it just wasn’t for me. While reading I felt like I was being told a story rather than reading and experiencing one.
I get that Matilda is an extremely smart and advanced 5 year old but almost nothing about her screamed 5 year old child. The way she spoke and the way she acted were more so that of a fully grown adult, I believe that even if a child was that advanced they would still talk and act like child.
I also absolutely did not like Ms. Honey, she felt like a very selfish and impulsive person and at some points I felt like she was singling out Matilda and separating her even farther from her peers than she already was. Some of the things she did seemed like she wasn’t putting any thought into them at all before she did them, like at the endwhen she and Matilda basically insist that the Wormwoods leave Matilda with Ms. Honey without any forethought, like I expect that from the Wormwoods but Ms. Honey is supposed to be the smart one. I also expect this kind of impulsivity from a 5 year old but not from and 20 something year old.
