Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

This book was a beautiful and tragic coming of age story that dealt with so much more: colonialism, missionaries, first love, domestic violence, class systems, activism, and political corruption. I went into it with zero knowledge of what it was about and finished it with a desire to stay with the characters and see their continued growth for so much longer than I got.
