Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf

emotional reflective slow-paced

4.0

I've always thought Virginia Woolf's writing is striking and beautiful, and this is the fourth book of hers I've read.  While in the past I have respected her books I have not loved them all.  I enjoyed Orlando the best, 4 stars from me, and now this one is a second 4 star.  It seems that I enjoy her more structured books, the ones that are less stream of consciousness and more plot or character descriptions and interactions.  Mrs. Dalloway hit me more emotionally than the others, the depression, hopelessness, and isolation are so clear in the book it feels as though it is semi-autobiographical almost like reading Virginia's diary, but all wrapped up in exquisitely beautiful poetic language.  It is 4 stars for me because it took me 6 weeks to read it, only a book of 190 pages, I just wasn't excited to pick it up, I lacked the motivation to experience her world.
