I've recently discovered how massive the RBMC universe was and have been dying to read more since I was obsessed with Misty Walker's additions. Still, I was determining where to start when I discovered some of the books were based in Charleston, WV! I grew up in WV, and Charleston was about 30 minutes away from my hometown, and that's where most people worked, went to the movies/dinner, or just really spend time at. So I could not wait to read them. The only downside was that this part of RBMC wasn't on Kindle Unlimited, so I had to buy them. I bought the first few since it is a more extensive series than Walker's. I was wondering how this would work out for me, plus I've never read anything from Maynard before. However, this first book was amazing. It's only a novella, but it was intense. I had so much fun reading it, getting introduced to these new characters and meeting this new part of this universe that I've become obsessed with. For being under 100 pages, it was just so good. Some of the WV snippets we got were just disappointing. I think I was just so excited about it, and seeing how they were used in the book was just so wrong was just so sad and made it a bigger disappointment, but this is just the first book. It is a novella, so hopefully, in later books, it makes up for it. Julie and Roane are excellent, and they have some super intense moments, but it's not just about the romance in this book. It is super suspenseful, and looking back at everything that happened in this book, it's crazy that it all played out in it because I've read some full-length books. They don't have half as much chaos happen.
