It Would Be Night in Caracas by Karina Sainz Borgo

dark sad medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? Character
  • Strong character development? No

3.0

Really got drawn in at the start with the musings on grief and mother-daughter relationships, but I felt like this lacked quite a bit of drive? It was hard to feel an impetus or emotional connection with the characters and I sometimes failed to see the relevance of certain flashbacks. Definitely an extremely vivid and affecting portrayal of the violence and disruption. I don't know much about Venezuela's history so will have to go and do some further reading.
