Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross

3.0

This is one of those stories that could’ve been really bitchin’ had it been written by someone else.

The first half had my attention, even though things were constantly accomplished way too easily. For example, there’s a “heist” within the first few chapters that’s literally planned and carried out within a couple pages. Honestly, the actual heist takes place in two paragraphs.

The second half of the book was medium. It starts to drag because nothing really happens. You also learn that Dacre has to be one of the most naive, moronic gods to walk the earth for how much he doesn’t notice.

The last 20% had me rolling my eyes and sighing loudly the entire time. It was a Mockingjay-level ending. Simple. Anti-climactic. A GIANT SLAP IN THE FACE FROM 80 SUZANNE COLLINS CLONES. Characters are thrown away or forgotten. Showdowns are rushed through. Suddenly plot lines just don’t matter anymore. The conflict ends in four seconds.

The characters deserved better. We all deserved better.

AND PEETA MELLARK DESERVED BETTER. ALWAYS AND FOREVER.
