Blooms of Darkness by Helen Domico, Anna Applegate

4.5

“I am stronger than the darkness within me.”
“Careful, Little Rebel. Violent words tend to lure me closer, not push me away.”
“I do not want to be a princess in a glass cage.”
“Tits and daggers!”

Great first book in a new romantasy series. I can’t wait to read more!

The book follows princess Illiana, the heir of Brookmare, who is born without magic. I liked her as a character. Even though she didn’t have magic, she wasn’t helpless or weak but instead she was a strong character who was ready to do anything to help her people.

The MMCs, Ian and Kade, were different but both interesting characters. I liked how Ian had been there for Illiana all her life and how he knew basically everything about her and was there to help her when needed (not that she needed any man to save her).

Kade, on the other hand, was mysterious shadow daddy, perfect romantasy book boyfriend. I hope we learn more about him in the next book. The banter and chemistry between him and Illiana was great.

The storyline was engaging and kept me hooked. I read this book in one sitting and was eager to know what was happening. There were some plot twists that took me by surprise.

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.
