Live or Die by Anne Sexton
5.0
It was a long trip with little days in it
and no new places.
my favorite kind of poetry! Sexton loves words and how they sound together, but mostly she puts familiar words in novel order and is energized by the conflicting/complementary nuances of meaning that are only accessible in the deep recesses of common or powerful words. Live or Die manages to be extremely personal but evasive, never confiding too much in the reader but always drawing them in nonetheless. RIP Anne, sexism drove you mad.
