Beautiful love story in a unique setting. The story follows Mehr, who comes from a race that is frequently persecuted and hunted for their special gifts. As a nobleman’s daughter, she has protections, at least until she shows her gift—once she is found out, she is forced to serve and must find a way to survive.

I’ve never read a fantasy book that was set mostly in the desert, and I loved how the Gods and spirits were so connected to the earth there. The setting really influenced the vibes I got from the book, and made the struggles and decisions seem more profound and sweeping, due to the isolated nature of the villages and the hostility of the environment.

I loved how the storms were connected to the power of the Gods and the Daiva, and the idea that dance could channel and control that power was a beautiful choice. The descriptions of Mehr dancing and performing of the rites sounded so mesmerizing, one of my favorite aspects of the book—I’m always a sucker for different kinds of magic systems and was obsessed with how much this one seemed connected to spirituality and the environment.

But as much as I loved the magic and the setting—the true thing in this book that made me feral was the love story. Such tenderness and care for one another, I couldn’t get enough of that slowburn goodness. This is the perfect book for fantasy romance fans.
