What Have We Done: The Moral Injury of Our Longest Wars by David Wood

dark emotional informative sad tense medium-paced

5.0

This book is something everyone who has any kind of connection with a service member needs to read. As a veteran with an AD spouse, this is something I've become acquainted with in the last 20 years, but really in the last 6 years. It's so helpful to have a tangible name to give these emotions and feelings. The concept moral injury makes so much sense, honestly. Even as someone who was very removed from the wars in my service, the knowledge that I voluntarily served in a military that has done and continues to do such things really...it's uncomfortable. I think the author did a really great job at breaking down the concept; the stories he told brought me to tears several times. I've been in the military, am married to a service member, and I worked as a civilian with the military, and this information would have been insanely useful to have years ago.
