Ariadne by Jennifer Saint

3.0

3.5 stars.

This is a fairly straightforward retelling of these myths, with nothing much to add to the narrative by way of tone or prose, frankly. Ariadne comes across as placid and forgettable. Phaedra's story takes a turn I wasn't expecting, and I'm a little disappointed. Overall it's not bad, but it's also not exceptional. It's hard not to compare to Madeline Miller who is doing a fantastic job with these and spinning new life into them.

Still, I'm a sucker for these old myths and I did enjoy this book. I may pick up another one of hers to see how it compares.
