The Power by Naomi Alderman

2.0

I totally understand the buzz around this book, but it just didn't do it for me. And the amount of time it took me to read it definitely backs that up.

The Power deals with many of the issues we face in society today, but I couldn't get behind the way it dealt with those issues. I'm not a fan of fighting violence with violence, or taking someone down simply to rise up and be as cruel as they were, and felt that that was the message that was being pushed throughout this book. Although I know it's science fiction, I found it to be extremely unsettling, and felt tremendously disturbed while reading parts of the book.

And I would've been okay with that feeling if I truly walked away feeling 'the power' of The Power, but I didn't. There wasn't some grand moment where it all came together for me. There wasn't a conclusion that made all of the weird, little story lines make sense. The story just lacked.

Please tell me if I missed something! I went into reading this book really wanting to like it and am extremely disappointed that I didn't.
