The Many Lives of Mama Love: A Memoir of Lying, Stealing, Writing, and Healing by Lara Love Hardin

4.0

For a novel about incarceration, addiction, and shame, this was a shockingly easy read. The author’s voice is compelling and frank, not really veering into inspiration porn territory.

The author does a very deft job of balancing being realistic about her rationale and choices while not glamorizing jail or drug use. She’s honest that it is an escape, and something she put before everything else but never seems to be reminiscing pleasantly.

The author’s choices of what to include in her narrative was very interesting, and for the most part created a very tight storyline.
