Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke
5.0
The book proposes very complex questions on the advancement of civilization, a mark of true science fiction excellence. It also carries some of the problems of the Golden Age, including jarring pacing and subpar characterization and plotting, but they can be ignored in favor of the great ideas displayed through the story. I would definitely recommend there novel to anyone interested in the genre. It's a classic that lives up to expectations, and with one of the most powerful endings I've ever read, but not without its flaws.
And yes, it's a masterpiece.
