I read through the first 75% and then skim read the last 25%. I was not a fan of this one and I was disappointed as it had such good reviews. The plot was extremely confusing and the author was unable to get me to care about it or the treaty, the world building was poor and I was never convinced that this could be a real world. The miscommunication trope was used as the basis of nearly every conflict and used poorly, characters either refused to talk, refused to even finish sentences or the characters were so busy no one was listening to each other. At a few crucial points it was even though two characters were having completely different conversations. Overall no character exhibited any logic. The Emperor was a complete waste of time as a character and Kiem I just wanted to shake. It got two stars instead of one because the romance element was interesting, Jainon's back story and experiences add an element of depth and justification for his motivations and Keim at times showed real strength as a character.
