First of all: In Baru’s own words, she is a tycoon and not a tyrant, and second of all, it turns out the reveal at the end of book 2 is now the midpoint of the series and not end of the second act, because Dickinson like everyone else fell prey to trilogy creep.

THIRD of all, holy shit.

Given the new structure of the series, I’m seriously worried about a) how well Baru is doing, b) the lightning??????? and c) how very many actors there are who all hate Baru. Which admittedly she did largely bring upon herself.

Shoutout to her parents who were fantastic, to Aminata, who was amazing, to Tau-Indi, who I want to become, and to Shao Lune, who just wants to backstab her way to power and doesn’t understand why it isn’t working??? You’re not thinking big enough, dear.

Full warning to people who, like me, can’t wait for the book and get the ebook, it is fucking huge. The technical structure sags a bit, but I can’t think of what could be cut.
