a book about leah, who returns home after an under the sea mission gone wrong, and reunites with her wife miri. despite being happy to see her wife again, miri very quickly realises that leah has changed as a result of whatever happened to her in the depths of the ocean. leah is only physically there, but miri feels as though she's lost the love of her life.
the prose here was absolutely incredible and it's hard to believe that this was the author's debut ... ♡ i liked that this was slow and 240 pages felt like the appropriate length to me. i like that the author took it slow with her beautiful descriptions, they weren't over the top at all. it's a well done exploration of love and i felt very connected to miri and leah and their relationship. i loved the way the author handled miri's grief. i also like that we got to hear about them as a happy couple. when leah opens up about what has happened to her, it's handled just as well as literally everything else in this book. i quite liked that the mystery wasn't straight up solved and we can instead draw our own conclusions.
this was excellent to me, but i wouldn't exactly recommend it to everyone. i don't think everyone would like this book because it's not as action packed as they might expect, and it's slow (though i loved that about it). definitely for a niche audience, but i'm part of that audience for sure!!
