Shifter's Rogue by Lisa Ladew
4.0
This is book 5 in Lisa Ladew’s One True Mate series. While each book covers a couple’s romantic arc – there’s several mystery/suspense storylines running through the series. In that aspect these don’t really stand alone and need to be read in order starting with Shifter’s Sacrifice. Reviews may contain spoilers to earlier books.
Mac has been one of my favorite secondary characters and his “bromance” with Bruin has been a lot of fun. This book really has two halves - the first maybe 40% introducing us to Rogue and giving more background on Mac… then these two meet and it’s fireworks. Because we all knew Mac wouldn’t be happy with a shrinking Violet. Ladew didn’t disappoint in giving us a a female version of Mac. Though uniquely herself. She’s strong, smart, independent and has quite the mouth.
I love that Mac thought he’d just charge into his mate’s life and take over and that would be that. Nope - Rogue makes him earn it. Fireworks between these two.
As always, the pacing really kicks up toward the end. I like the addition of more antagonists, powers, and some big reveals.
I cannot wait for Bruin’s book, Bear’s Redemption.
Narration:
Michael Pauley is wonderful again. Bingeable performance. More characters needing more voices/distinctions and Pauley handles it fantastically.
