This was an amazing book. I think I have definitely read one of the later books in this series but it didn't ruin my enjoyment of this at all. The main character is complicated but sympathetic and despite most of the book taking place in court, it never got boring or lacked impetus. The writing was really easy to read, not over or under detailed, and the characters were just faceted enough for a first book in a series, to make you want to read more.

I have already bought the next book in this series and let's hope I like them all as much as I liked this one.
