Tales of the Unusual by Sungdae Oh

3.0

I haven't read the entire collection as it is longggg and ongoing, however have read quite a few sets of the earlier stories (I think I last read through #34: camping). as far as they go I have found them to be a bit hit and miss, and not always matching in tone. Its good if you want a variety of stories, but to me it feels a bit disjointed going from a demonic murderous magician to a very sad and bittersweet story about an old man coping with the death of his wife.

Oftentimes, I have liked where the stories are going, and have been not so impressed with how they have concluded. nothing feels entirely memorable to me, it is just a bit of a "meh" throughout really. I've also felt at times a tiny bit of originality was missing in some stories, as some reminded me of other mainstream stories already in publication. not word for word, just warily similar.

however, it isn't bad, and it would be interesting to see how these improve as the mangaka continues to write and develop their style in later chapters. so by all means, I say give it a try and see what you think.
