This was a quick YA queer coming of age novel about a sixteen year old who decides to save her own money to hold a coming out party since her mom couldn't afford a sweet sixteen party and also doesn't know she's queer. She tells her mom it's for a belated birthday party and we follow Mahalia as she navigates family, money issues, and falling in love for the first time. I really enjoyed this--it made me cry and also mad me laugh out loud a few times!
