The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston

3.0

The blurb got me excited (same with The Seven Year Slip) but I find Ash Poston’s books don’t fulfil their full potential for me.
The blurb sets out an amazing story, but I find the main elements of this story so underdeveloped. Florence can talk to ghosts but this only happens twice. The love story with Benji…they have a business meeting and then he dies and they talk for a week-ish. Not enough for me! Give me more time with them together!!

This book was also incredibly sad, but not in a fun way. So much of this book was centred around the death of Florence’s father, which for me just was nothing I enjoyed reading….

Side note: Florence and her brother read The Hating Game by Sally Thorne, saying Benji is like the guy from that book, ie. “tall, dark and handsome and his eyes are the colour of his bedroom walls”. The thing is though… the wall colour is not the dudes eye colour but the FMCs eye colour, meaning this makes no sense?!
