Violet Made of Thorns by Gina Chen

I gave this the very high bar of having Little Thieves vibes at the start of this story, but as it plodded on, it got progressively weaker, leaving me struggling to get through it. I started to notice the lack of world building half way through, and overall I'm not sure this was quite ready for publication.
Violet started off a strong, morally grey character so similar to Vanya at the start but I felt much like story, her character grew weaker as the story progressed. The world building was pretty vague, I'm not too certain what happens outside the walls of the castle and this would have REALLY benefitted from a polyamorous relationship with Dante, I've gotta be honest.
What really annoyed me at the end of this story was that there was plenty of set up for the sequel, there were many major loose threads, a few typical plot set ups we'd expect in YA for the sequel, but there is no sequel. I searched, and it seems the author just decided not to continue writing it.
