I'm so excited!!
I've watched shows with similar-ish plots, but it was my first time reading a book such as this one. While writing this review, I'm listening to the Spotify playlist that the author made. It's making me feel the story even more.
It was a Joseon-era Korea historical murder mystery mixed with some slow-burn romance AND I LOVED IT! I think it's a first book in a while that I've read bit by bit everyday. I didn't purge through it nor did I leave it to sit in a corner. That was a good choice on my behalf, since the chapters were in nice chunks and I could get one or two in before sleep.
Eojin and Hyeon were the mystery solving power couple I didn't know I needed. And I'm glad I discovered them! Both were characters with their own stories, their own pasts. I must say, both of them are probably the only humans who choose justice over revenge, and that's admirable.
The whole story kept me on my toes, I never knew who to fully trust, who to blame. There was always uncertainty. It was SO intriguing, because I wanted to know the truth and finally put all the puzzle pieces together.
And let me tell you, I was pretty shocked at the end. Just goes to show, that we never know people 100%, we only see what we are allowed to see.
That's also true about Hyeon's mother and father. I feel for her mom and I hope that she got a little bit of peace at the end. The father, however, pissed me off. Their relationship was very unfair, obviously not one of mutual love and respect, and it might never be. What Hyeon did at the end for her father made me frustrated, because I felt like the father didn't deserve it, but I also understood why Hyeon did it. And it was very smart of her, because she probably saved herself from a lot of pain and disappointment.
I've yet to read the extra "chapter" that the author shared on Twitter. It's about Hyeon and Eojin, so I know it's gonna be good :)

I suppose there is nothing polite about murder.
