The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead

3.0

The Underground Railroad profoundly affected me but I didn't get the same feeling from this. Maybe it's because the vast majority of characters were men, I don't know. It was well written and for such a short book (208 pages) it was tightly plotted but I think that might be where the issue is because a lot of the story is not gone in to in any detail. I think that's deliberate and maybe because it's so far removed from my life, I don't have the imagination to adequately fill the gaps.

I thought it was important but I can't say that I enjoyed reading it.
