The Book Club by C.J. Cooper

3.0

I thought this book was just okay. The writing wasn't bad but I didn't like the mix of tenses and the fact that the chapters weren't headed and we got different people's points of view was confusing at the beginning of the chapter. I thought Lucy was quite a good character and this was a fairly good portrayal of what is known as an injustice collector as a sub genre of serial killers. Having said that though, while I thought the plot was fairly dynamic, I've read much worse in terms of pace, it did have fairly massive plot holes which would have been foiled by the people talking to each other. I understand why Lucy was not big on communication as she had only known the other book club friends for 3 months but the others appear to have known each other a long time. Also at leat two of the friends were close enough to share an intimate secret and yet they wouldn't have just said who chose this weird book? They instead would believe that one of their friends was trying to hint at a secret. Maybe I have too much faith in people but I call bullshit.

I would have given it two stars but I generally enjoyed the read and I don't read that many of this kind of book to be bored yet.
