Solito by Javier Zamora
3.0
Zamora wrote this memoir about the time he was sent with a group of strangers and a coyote to cross illegally into the US to meet his parents. His parents had crossed previously, and even though they survived they must have known the risks. How could they send their 9-yr old to walk through the desert, risking death and jail and more. I just can't imagine. I would never send my kid alone on such a dangerous mission.
Despite this sounding like it would be exciting, most of this is very slow. Waiting and boredom for little Javier. It got very repetitive. I realize that hygiene is a big issue when you are a fugitive migrant, but I got tired of the repetitive scenes about the minute details of their hygiene situation. Finally near the end, the story was nerve-wracking and exciting.
