A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn
5.0
If you are living in America, I think you should read this. This book is a drug.
In less than 700 pages, Zinn has changed my life forever. Everywhere I look I see the content of A People’s History, mirrors everywhere. Palestine is everywhere. History is the best political theory in the world. This book makes me want to act, makes we want to create, makes me proud, and sobers me up. Yes, it has flaws but they’re not worth complaining about, and Zinn is self-aware in his Afterword.
Every chapter is incredible, and could be discussed endlessly. I cried. Chapter 23, ‘The Coming Revolt of the Guards’ is moving beyond belief; “The prisoners of the system will continue to rebel, as before, in ways that cannot be foreseen, at times that cannot be predicted. The new fact of our era is the chance that they may be joined by the guards. We readers and writers of books have always been, for the most part, among the guards”.
