I loved this book. I have a real fascination for the Black Death and it both intrigues me and really scares me, so while I am drawn to books with that as the central theme, I also have to wary because I am prone to nightmares. This book was full of stories with people at their heart and I liked all of them. You don't often hear from people who are not only ordinary people but who are different for the time and I liked that. I do like hearing about nobles and battles but I also want to know about ordinary people too. I have read a number of Karen Maitland's works so I knew what to expect.

I have already bought another one of her books so I'm working my way through the collection.
