In this penultimate installment, Max finally learns the truth about her family heritage.  And Max gains more of her place in the world, too.  But the pacing suffered, as it did in the first two books.  

Max spends most of her time with warriors of the Order finding and eradicating various supernatural creatures while searching for two demons.  It was all quite boring, honestly.  The ending did move the dial a bit, but I expect most of the action will appear in the final installment.
