A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson
5.0
Would recommend: Yes
Before I read A Walk in the Woods, I thought I wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail, but now I know that I only want to hike in the Shenandoah Valley. Although the trail is a huge accomplishment, Bill Bryson's amusing account of his attempt is a humorous, realistic view of the feat, while defending national parks everywhere. This travel memoir is my favorite of Bryson's so far.
Edited to add: In general, my book club liked this one, although there was a consensus that it petered out toward the end. Regardless, everyone really enjoyed the humor of the first half.
