Surviving Schizophrenia: A Manual for Families, Patients, and Providers by E. Fuller Torrey

5.0

A lengthy book on schizophrenia. Geared more for the family member who deals with having a mentally ill sibling is what I got from the way the book was sounding but I liked it nether less. It is informative and comprehensive. A must for someone with the disorder or family member who cares for one with the disorder.

There are important aspects of the book that I find are immensely taken with care including the aftercare of a family member with schizophrenia if the main caregiver passes on. As well as taking into consideration why people with schizophrenia don't take meds, many which I have fallen into.

It treats the patient as a human being not just a burden on the community or family while also acknowledge that it can be hard to deal with someone who is in an irrational state.

Reading this book always gives me hope that maybe I can survive to live with schizophrenia.
